Squee

If any of you have ever watched "New Moon" in the vicinity of any member of the female gender, you probably can guess what kind of noise I made when I saw this.  If you need a more specific approximation of the noise that came out of my mouth, grab a girl - any girl, no matter what age - and sit her down at the scene where Jacob the Werewolf takes his shirt off the first time.  That's the noise I made when Nintendo announced "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA:  SKYWARD SWORD".  Then I made that noise that 13-year-old girls make when the Jonas Brothers start the concert.  And then I made the noise that every heterosexual male makes when inside a strip club.  I'm so happy I could cry.... again.  I have become those three girls at Hyrule Town from "Twilight Princess".

I know there were other things at E3, some of which might have gotten me very excited before.  There was a "Metroid", there was "Castlevania:  Lords of Shadow", and a sequel to "Portal" (which I never played, oddly).  But none of it meant anything.  "Kid Icarus" for the 3DS?  Snore.  The 3DS itself?  Who cares?  "Kingdom Hearts" with Leonard Nimoy??  BORING.  You know why?  Because there's a new Zelda coming!

NINTENDO SIXTY-FOUR!!!

  2. If you watch the live trailer, notice how everyone appluaded when Majora's Mask showed up in the recap part, but then stooped when it disappeared.

Though Im still excited for this game, no question, I was kinda hoping for a spiritual sucsessor to MM.

Oh well, next time I guess.

  3. I'm guessing that when Link on Epona first popped up people weren't 100% sure it was Zelda, but Majora's Mask was hard not to figure out.

  4. Yes! I can't wait for this. The new art style is beautiful and looks like WW and TP had a baby. I'm worried about the motion control though. I don't really like motion control and it looks like it will be a really big feature of the game.

  5. I don't actually think its an actual compromise between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but a completely new art style. The color has a certain softness, almost a blur. It looks almost like a watercolor painting to me.

  6. I've never played a Zelda game before, but I'm thinking of getting "Link to the Past". As I've never played a Zelda game before, I don't know what to expect. Anything I should know that could affect my final opinion of the series on the whole?

  7. I haven't liked a Zelda game since Wind Waker. Having never owned a Nintendo 64, though, I am excited to play Ocarania of Time when it's remade for the 3DS.

  9. "Shirtless Jacob"? Eww...no wait, I don't think that's the usual female reaction.

The style reminds me of Paul Cézanne's artworks. I'm not sure if it's a deliberate homage, but examining some his landscapes makes me suspect it is: http://www.google.com/images?rlz=1C1SKPC_enAU347AU347&q=paul%20cezanne&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi

Good call. Apparently Miyamoto is a fan of Impressionism, especially Monet and Cézanne.

And wee187... It's Zelda. I don't really know how else to describe it. You should probably do some reading about it on wikipedia or metacritic. Or you could emulate it, like YKPProductions said, but then you'll have to set up an emulator and download the ROM, which is technically illegal.

  11. Not kidding....I believe Nintendo is making a huge comeback. 2008-2009 really blew for them....but 2010...will....be...their year.

    Haha, good one.

  13. "Technically illegal". Actually its just straight-up illegal. More importantly its stealing - you may rationalize it with "oh, Square Enix has millions of dollars, they won't really be harmed". That's nonsense. Stealing is stealing, no matter how small, or who your victim is.

As a forewarning: do not link to any torrents, downloads, or bays filled with pirates on my blog. I'll immediately delete your comment.

  14. There's alos a remake of Star Fox 64, which is both good and bad. Great, cause it's fucking Star Fox 64, but bad, cause it isn't Star Fox Wii. Seriously, Nintendo.

  15. Lulz, you're right. I was joking of course, since if I wasn't I'd just link a ROM website. Haha, bays filled with pirates. Link to The Past emulated sucks green balls anyways, at least for me, cuz it always crashes. And yes, I own the game, along with OOT and MM, which I also emulate from time to time.

  16. Ugh, piracy derail. Let's go back to talking about art, shall we?

I hear this Link is supposed to be an adult, but he really doesn't look any older than TP Link. Anything to do with Impressionism is fine by me; I love that movement.

  17. I like the art style too. Cell shaded like Wind Waker, but with realistic body proportions. Hopefully now there won't be morons whining about how it looks childish because of the cartoon-like graphics. I still need to beat Wind Waker, I lost my save data and had to return the rental, so I never got around to restarting it.
Here's a thought: the new Metroid has Samus speaking, will Skyward Sword feature spoken dialogue? I've never liked the silent protagonist concept.

  18. I seriously doubt there will be full voice acting, for Link at least. Other characters may have voice acting but I'm fairly sure Link will always be silent.

And I've never played a Star Fox game. Should I get the remake when it comes out?

  19. I'd like to interject that it's still illegal to emulate a game if you own it.

  20. Not for digital copies my friend, not for copies. But ya, I see what you mean.
