Family Guy Rant: Its Over, Go Home

So last night I watched a new episode of "Family Guy" at its airing time, which I don't usually do.  Its been years since I've watched a proper "Family Guy" episode, I decided to watch out of curiosity since two weeks ago Brian was murdered for shock value.  This show sucks.  Watching it was a huge mistake.  I didn't really feel like writing my thoughts down, I just needed to record myself talking immediately.  Because this is so depressing, so sad, Brian being dead is the least of this show's problems.  Enjoy:

  1. I feel Blue. This show should have ended 3 or 4 years ago. The shticks are getting really offensive to the point that you can't even defend it anymore, Stewie is ambiguously gay just so they can make throw away gay jokes, and Peter is just down right stupid where it turns it's self around and it's just sad to watch. It's sorta like the Simpsons: the first 4 season it's genuiely funny and you can't wait to watch the next episode. Fastforward ten years and the only people who are watching this is those who feel they have a obligation to continue to watch. And with this whole "OMG Brian is dead!" is just a small thing to give a small boost to what ratings they have. He'll be back by the middle of the season (The voice acter whose doing the italian dog is signed on for several episode). And the creator is the voices of most of the characters of the show.

And Blue, what would I have to do to get you to host a weekly podcast?

    1. Maybe monthly. I really want to do something similar to that half-drunken Furious 6 review I did about six months ago.

As for the Simpsons, I'd say it was consistently funny for about twenty years. Only really lately has it felt just awful and tired. The entirety of the Fox Sunday program for years now has seemed like a zombie apocalypse.

  2. I get what you mean B, I get you. Sometimes is better to let things die rather than see them waste away in their own sh*tiness. "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" are probably some of the best examples, or "The Office" and "HIMYM" if you prefer.
The Fox animation has been too complacent with airing shows that have a large fan base since they were great once but refuse to keep its quality, and I'm afraid that "American Dad" will one day stop entertaining me. Luckily I still have "Archer" and "Bob's Burgers" which are just a breath of fresh air. Have you seen those shows? I highly recommend them if you haven't.

  3. I heard that Seth is trying to run the show into the ground because he believes that a show shouldn't go on for more than 7 seasons. So I guess he's trying to make the show suck. I never liked it to begin with, course I was like 6 or something when it came out(but I watched Futurama GUHU NAUGHTY) but it certainly felt less offensive than the current episodes now(if I actually saw any at that age(probably not)). Bleurgh. Whatever, I need to sleep. Bye and stuff.

  4. Ah Blue, after that it sounds like you need a internet hug.

As to why people keep watching it, there is actually I think me and a lot of other people do it. Its that you have a string of crap episodes and your just about to quit watching the show, they pull out a legitimately funny episode that keeps you watching for the next string of crap episodes.
I think yes we all know its not that good, but there's some bizarre fascination in seeing what abomination of animation will come next.

Still I agree almost whole heartily about what you said in your rant, except for to points ( ironically neither of them family guy related)
1.American Dad is actually a pretty good show. After the first season it was no longer republican Family guy. It is a show that actual characters that grow somewhat, some continuity, no gut away gags and while it does have dark humor it spreads it out and uses it at just the right time. Rather then family guy that uses dark humor so often that you are desensitized to it.
    2. And while the last season of Futurama was hit and miss, you can't deny the finale if nothing else was sweet, ( If you have not seen it yet, you should. Not giving away any spoilers as one should experience for ones self).
